The Worlds of Tove Jansson

SCROLL

a radio feature produced by Michael Shirrefs

How many of you grew up with funny little characters called Moomintrolls? Well, this week on the Artworks Feature we visit Finland and the fantastical world of the Moomins—a world created by one of Finland’s most beloved artists and writers—Tove Jansson.

But Tove Jansson did more than just create characters for children. Only recently have some of her novels and short stories for adults been finally available in English—10 years after the author’s death—highlighting one of the more distinctive literary voices of the 20th Century.

Michael Shirrefs went to Helsinki to visit the author’s niece Sophia Jansson and to get a feel for the landscape that inspired the Moomins.
