A tiny plane, loads of heart and the finest music in the most remote outback locations. Musician and pilot John Morrison flies world-class violinist Ian Cooper and virtuoso pianist Ambre Hammond around the top end of Australia.
Tagging along for the ride is program maker Lyn Gallacher, whose own flying lessons begin as soon as the trip finishes. She has plugged her recorder into the cockpit conversation and become completely hooked. It’s all part of the extended reach of the Queensland Music Festival and proves that learning music is a way of learning about other things as well.
This life changing tour kicks off in Burketown and visits Weipa, Aurukun, Hope Vale, Atherton and Innisfail. The music is classical, gypsy and jazz all the way. We discover that Rachmaninoff hasn’t been heard in Aurukun before and that violins sound better when the bridge isn’t bent.
But, as important as the music is, it’s the flying that steals the show. So, chocks away as our two pilot comedians are now ready to take you on a wild ride up north. And yes THAT is your runway.
